Ayan made Ranbir, Deepika, Aditya, and Kalki drive from Chandigarh to Manali so that they could build a special rapport that would then translate onscreen. While the trip was supposed to take six hours, Ranbir was adamant about finding a restaurant that apparently served the best butter chicken. Because of this detour, the trip took 14 hours to complete.
